Steve is a California native beginning his career as a welder with an undergraduate degree in technical theatre at the California State University, Stanislaus. From there he attended the MFA program in performing arts administration at Brooklyn College. Prior to moving to Yakima, WA, Steve worked in and managed regional theatre’s in New York, Arkansas, Washington and Oregon. Steve has been the CEO of the Capitol Theatre for the past 20 years.
As an active member the Pacific Northwest arts community, Steve has served as the president for the Washington State Arts Alliance, Arts Northwest and the Washington State Arts Commission. Locally, Steve has served as the president of the Yakima Valley Visitors & Convention Bureau and is currently vice-chair for the Yakima Downtown Association. He is an active member of Rotary and, with his wife Anne, has hosted over a dozen exchange students from throughout the world. Both co-chaired the 2004 Rotary District 5060 Conference held in Yakima.
Steve is married to Anne N. Caffery, who is the CEO for The Memorial Foundation, and Vice President for Communications and Development for Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. She has been nationally recognized for her work in health care philanthropy, and specifically for her work in addressing child healthcare needs.
