YAKIMA, WA Rarely does one get the opportunity to rock out to Grandma’s favorite opera tunes. But that’s about to change when East Village Opera Company brings their infectious style of Rock Opera to Yakima’s Capitol Theatre October 3 and 4, 2008.

Co-founded by lead singer Tyley Ross and arranger/multi-instrumentalist Peter Kiesewalter, East Village Opera Company consists of a five-piece, full on rock band, a string quartet, and two outstanding vocalists, including the extremely talented AnnMarie Milazzo. Together the dedicated group has been rocking the opera and electrifying the classics since its New York stage debut in the spring of 2004.

East Village Opera Company takes opera classics such as “La donna è mobile” from Rigoletto, “Habanera” from Carmen, and “Nessun dorma” from Turandot , and performs them at full length and in the original languages, but with a style that can’t be ignored. Embracing what Peter Kiesewalter calls “the pomposity of rock and the pomposity of opera” without demeaning or satirizing either form, the East Village Opera Company flies where countless other “classical-crossover” efforts have failed.

The Capitol Theatre is elated to be offering this edgy new sound to Central Washington. “East Village has taken two extremely popular music genres and combined them in a way that is hard not to like. This is a show that grandparents will want to attend with their grandchildren,” says Steve Caffery, Executive Director of The Capitol Theatre. “Mine are still just grandbabies, but if they were older, I’d definitely be taking them to a show.”

East Village Opera Company will be performing three shows at The Capitol Theatre: Friday, October 3, 2008 - 7:30; and Saturday, October 4, 2008 - 2:00 and 7:30. Tickets are on sale now.

Don’t miss this chance to appreciate opera like you’ve never heard it before!
