Despite their best efforts, Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom just can’t take their $2 million and get away to Rio de Janeiro. The failed Broadway producer and his accountant again take to the stage, this time at downtown Yakima’s historic Capitol Theatre.
The Producers, a musical based on Mel Brooks’ adaptation of his Academy Award-winning 1968 film of the same name, will appear in three shows Nov. 16 and 17 at Yakima’s Capitol Theatre as part of a nationwide tour. Two days may not be enough for the biggest Tony Award winner in Broadway history.
With five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (Crazy for You, Contact, The Music Man) directing, The Producers revolves around Bialystock’s and Bloom’s scheme to cheat theater angels (investors) by overselling public interest in what they believe will be a complete Broadway flop. Their plan, however, becomes entangled in the unexpected success of Springtime for Hitler.
This is one Broadway production that won’t close on opening night.
