INAPPROPRIATE FOR CAPITOL
To the editor — I think it was absolutely appalling to have the production of "Spring Awakening" at the Capitol Theatre. To have such a fine theater bring its morals down to this level is truly a shame for Yakima. Where is our example for our youth? There is enough smut in the Valley without this. Shame on you. We are better than this!

SMART THEATER IN YAKIMA
To the editor — Bravo to the Capitol Theatre for its "Edge" series. Thank you for bringing saucy, interesting, smart theater to Yakima. Thank you for helping this community engage in conversations about art — and life — that are uncomfortable yet imperative for our personal and collective growth.
I enjoy musicals like "Grease;" I need musicals like "Spring Awakening" with its powerful and relevant story line. Patrons: Did it make you squirm in your seats? I hope so. More than that, I hope it made you shake your head with sadness (and fury?) that a story line from the late 1800s about not adequately educating our kids about sex — with disastrous consequences — continues to be a pressing issue in this community and this country. The show was quite possibly the best production I’ve seen in Yakima with its rich story line and amazing talent.
I look forward to another brilliant season (and more squirming in our seats)!
