VERY FAMILY UNFRIENDLY

To the editor -- A recent weekend, my husband, Birch, and I attended this season's first "very family friendly" Broadway event at the Capitol Theatre. Over seven years, we have enjoyed many wholesome shows there, although disappointingly we have noticed (and not attended) a few with loose morals.

Delightfully, last year the Capitol Theatre announced two series: "very family friendly" and "adult." To our dismay, the weekend's "very family friendly" show, "The Wedding Singer," was quite the opposite. Often the language was distasteful and certainly several of the musical numbers (and costumes) were inappropriate. "Very family friendly"? Far from it!

What does the Capitol Theatre consider "very family friendly"?

As a community, can we not promote and support clean language, classy acting and a great story?

Our faith in the kind of Broadway shows the Capitol Theatre supports has plummeted. It is essential, especially during a time of expansion, for the Capitol Theatre to be true to its word.

Please bring back more good wholesome shows. If Yakima truly does need to have its filth, please keep it separate from the "very family friendly" shows.

We're hoping for a more wholesome future.
