BACKSTAGE

The mission of Backstage is to promote, support and maintain the Capitol Theatre and its programs. Members work to provide our diverse community with a variety of art and entertainment. We raise funds, provide social and leadership opportunities for our members, and work to insure community involvement and participation in the Theatre.

Letter from the President

There are numerous individuals and groups working behind the scenes to make this performance both possible and truly memorable. Backstage is one of those organizations.  An all-volunteer organization, Backstage supports the Theatre and its activities.   While under the umbrella of the Capitol Theatre Committee Board, Backstage is its own organization and our 100+ members serve in a variety of capacities.  These activities range from making sure any Theatre upgrades are in keeping with our beautiful historic facility, to sponsoring activities to reach out into the community.  As this year’s President, I sit as a voting member of the Capitol Theatre Board of Directors. 

This year we already have several projects planned - under one theme, “Working to Secure Our Future”.  Number one on our list of priorities is you the patron.  We want your Capitol Theatre experience a memory for a lifetime. 

Another of Backstage’s primary goals is to secure the future of your theatre. One way we help accomplish this is by participating in the annual fund drive.  And, while we are proud that each year less than 10% of the theatre’s total operating capital comes from donations (most arts organization require a much higher percentage of donations to continue to operate – some as high as 80%), that little 10% is still critical to the health of the organization.  So, thank you, to all of you who donate.   Your donation will continue to build for tomorrow’s future. 

Finally, but most importunately, is our membership.  These are busy times and it takes a special commitment to be a member of a volunteer organization like Backstage.  Beginning at page 30 of your playbill, is a list of our members and I am personally grateful to each and every one of them for their dedication and commitment.  If you recognize a name, please take a little time to thank them for their support of our Capitol Theatre.
