PAJAMA GAME
FEBRUARY 13&14, 2009

Workers versus the management… tempers beginning to flare… a strike is just around the corner...

It seems an unlikely setting for a romantic comedy, yet that is just what Richard Alder and Jerry Ross’ Pajama Game is. Delightful in its easily lovable characters and boy-meets-girl theme, Pajama Game opens at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory during a strenuous labor negotiation. At the musical's center is the simmering attraction between a handsome new manager, Sid, and a lovely union representative, Babe. Remaining true to their convictions, Sid and Babe flirt and fight with one another while falling into irrefutable love. Things really heat up when a 7-1/2 cent wage is demanded by the union, and the boss says no.

Pajama Game has a long history, first running on Broadway in 1954. Since then, the charming show has enjoyed two revivals, one in 1973, and another in 2006. The original production won a Tony for Best Musical, and the 2006 Broadway revival, featuring Harry Connick, Jr. as the adorable Sid, won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

Pajama Trivia

The 1954 Pajama Game featured John Raitt (Bonnie’s dad) as Sid. He also went on to play the part in the 1957 movie of the same name.

Shirley McLaine was in the chorus line of the original 1954 show.

The 2006 revival was Harry Connick Jr.’s theatrical debut
