Whether you know the show from seeing it in the theatre 70s, or on television reruns, The Capitol Theatre’s presentation of Grease will have you singing, snapping, and hand jiving the night away.
The latest production of Grease features songs from the smash hit 1978 motion picture for the first time ever in a Broadway production including "Sandy," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Grease," and "You're the One That I Want," as well the songs made famous by the original stage production including "Summer Nights," "Greased Lightnin'" and "We Go Together.”
While Grease's story was quaintly anachronistic in the 1970s; it’s now positively Old Testament, but really, that’s what makes it so fun. It's the classic "boy meets/loses/regains" girl tale with some class conflict thrown in.
Danny, leader of the local high school’s bad boys club, hits it off over the summer break with Sandy, a new girl sporting a freshly scrubbed, Sandra Dee persona. All heck breaks lose when Sandy is enrolled in Danny’s high school in the fall. Guys like Danny just don’t date sweet innocents like Sandy, and to save face with his friends, Danny forsakes her.
Meanwhile, Sandy somehow manages to work her way into the good graces of the Pink Ladies, the T-Birds’ female counterparts. What follows along the road to Danny and Sandy's reconciliation are pretty much what you expect of a '50s era teen romance: rumble where no one gets hurt, a dance contest, and of course, a drive-in make-out scene.
From the 1970s to today, Grease remains the one that we want! Catch it at your Capitol Theatre!
