"This musically rich, legend-based classic evokes enough swashbuckling spectacle to keep one smiling…” – New York Times

In a time when it’s difficult to find entertainment appealing and appropriate for the entire family, The Capitol Theatre hits the mark with Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot!

The classic story begins with young King Arthur, nervous about meeting his wife-to-be, Guenevere. With wizard Merlyn’s support, Arthur manages to meet and woo Guenevere, and soon, the two have fallen in love and married.

King and Queen live happily, and with Guenevere’s help, King Arthur manages to establish the “Round Table”—a gathering of knights who would rather uphold honor and justice rather than pillage and fight.

Over in France, a young, self-absorbed Lancelot learns of the Round Table, and travels to Camelot to join the new knighthood. Initially, Guenevere is put off by Lancelot’s self-assuredness, but when he appears to bring a man back to life, she, along with the rest of the court, have a change in heart.

The change leads to an attraction that is soon apparent to all. The story twists and turns, as unrequited love battles with honor and loyalty, and King Arthur realizes the passing of all that was Camelot.

Full of romance and chivalry, revenge and betrayal, Camelot is truly the musical for the entire family. Children love the knights and swords, fair maidens and finery. Adults appreciate the conflict between love and honor, as well as the self-possessed cockiness of Lancelot.

Based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from the T. H. White’s The Once and Future King, Alan Jay Lerner developed the book and lyrics for Camelot, and Frederic Loewe wrote the music. The original 1960 production ran on Broadway for 873 performances, earning four Tony Awards and spawning several revivals, foreign productions, and a 1967 film version. The original cast album, featuring Julie Andrews, Richard Burton, Roddy McDowell, and Robert Goulet, was America's top-selling LP for 60 weeks.

“Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot.” – John F. Kennedy
